This shrub is native to Japanese forests. It is an exceptional climbing plant that decorates and adds a touch of romance to your pergola, walls or fences with its flower cascade. It can also used as an isolated subject in the middle of a lawn or walkway. Its branches grow by wrapping around its support in a clockwise direction. The stems thicken and lignify with age, eventually able to make a twisted trunk 25 cm in diameter. Its foliage takes a nice ocher yellow color in autumn, decorated with many decorative pods. Its purple bloom appears in long clusters, in May-June, diffusing its fragrant smell the in calm weather. It can even bloom twice in a year: in spring and again in summer. The length and tiered arrangement of the branches bring great elegance to the plant. In the spring, long fragrant bunches hang from its branches.

Unlike other climbing plants, is able to cling to a support placed horizontally; it is thus found to frame a portal, or to fill the flowery vault of an alley. This plant can be trained as a fan on a flat surface equipped with a trellis or wire.
